Ok it’s a tapir, but still, this is a mind-blowing coincidence.
Scientists announced today they have discovered a new species of tapir in Brazil and Colombia. It’s the largest mammal discovered in at least 20 years and one of the biggest animals in the continent.
Still, all the news for the tapir (and the taper) isn’t good:
All of the world’s tapir species are currently listed as threatened with extinction due to overhunting and habitat destruction, and the scientists believe the Kabomani will be no different. In fact, given its scarcity and possibly smaller habitat than other tapirs, it could be hugely imperiled.
I discovered the tapir a few months ago myself.
