That takes some of the shine off Barnier's comments from Wednesday, surely. Definitely not one that will the lift the mood of the pound on the day but had it come from a more authoritative figure, it would have caused more of a stir.
The market right now is still focused on risk off tones with trade tensions continuing to weigh across asset classes.
