Dow the big loser today
The Italian political contagion hurt US stocks today with all three major indices moving lower.
The financials were hammered on overall banking concerns.
- Deutsche Bank in the US was down -6.27%. They are in the center of the storm in Europe and still trying to get it's feet under themselves
- Morgan Stanley was down -5.79%
- PNC Financials was down -4.6%
- JP Morgan was down -4.27%
- Citigroup was down -3.99%
- Bank of America was down -3.98%
- Charles Schwab was down -3.79%
- Wells Fargo was down -3.53%
- Goldman Sachs was down -3.4%
Some tech/high flying stocks did ok:
- Micron rose 2.07%
- Twitter was up 1.13%
- Facebook was up 0.44%
- Amazon was up 0.17%
- Tesla rose 1.76%
For the indices today:
- The S&P fell -31.47 points or -1.16% at 2689.86. The high stalled right at the 100 day MA at 2710.67. Today was the first close below the 100 day MA in 12 trading days. The low today at 2676.81 got close to the 50 day MA at 2672.68.
- The Nasdaq fell -37.26 points or -0.50% at 7396.59.
- The Dow closed down -391 points or 1.58% at 24361. The low reached 24247 at the lows.
Not a good day for equities as they got caught in the Italian/European storm.
