February UK labour report claimant count -34.6k vs -25k exp

  • Jan ILO unemployment rate 7.2% vs 7.2% exp. Prior 7.2
  • Jan average earnings (ex-bonus) 1.3% vs 1.2% exp. Prior 1.0%
  • Jan average weekly earnings 1.4% vs 1.3% exp (3 mth avg y/y). Prior 1.1%. revised to 1.2%

Another very decent job report although no change in the unemployment rate. People going self employed helped boost employment to a new record of just under 30.2m.

Wages up slightly which is a good sign and a slow and steady pace will add to the economy.

Looks like cable was expecting a decent report which is why we went no higher on the release. 1.6642 is the high so far and we slip back to 1.6620.
