Eurozone April trade balance €15.3 billion vs €17.0 billion expected

Latest data released by Eurostat - 18 June 2019

  • Prior €17.9 billion; revised to €18.6 billion
  • Non-seasonally adjusted trade balance €15.7 billion
  • Prior €22.5 billion

The details doesn't do the report here any good with exports showing a 2.4% decline on the month while imports fell by 0.8%, resulting in the narrower trade surplus seen compared to April. This is similar to what we saw from the German report earlier this month and confirms the slowdown in trade in the euro area given global trade tensions.
