European stocks open with unchanged to modest gains in the new trading week

Major indices are higher, but not by much.

The European stocks are off to a positive start this week but modest gains are recorded.

  • German DAX up 0.1%
  • France's CAC unchanged
  • UK's FTSE up 0.1%
  • Spain's Ibex of 0.2%
  • Italy's FTSE MIB up 0.5%
  • Portugal's PSI 20 up 0.61%

IN the 10 year not sector today:

  • Germany 0.506%, +0.8 basis points
  • France 0.739%, +0.3 basis points
  • UK 1.406%, +1.0 basis points
  • Spain 1.238%, +0.6 basis points
  • Italy 1.771%, -1.5 basis points
  • Portugal 1.694%, +0.2 basis points

In other markets as London/European traders look to exit:

  • Spot gold $-.66 or -0.05% at 1333
  • WTI crude oil futures plus $1.28 or 2.06% at $63.34

US stocks are trading near their highs for the day.

In the forex market, the USD and the JPY has moved lower from the NY start. The US stock market moved sharply higher and yields are higher too. That helped to send the greenback and the JPY pairs to the upside. The NZD remains the weakest (see earlier review at the start to the day - CLICK HERE).
