European stocks blow their winning streak on the last day of May

European stock market close 31 May 2016

Have we seen the 'Sell in May and go away" saying come to fruition?

It's largely been a positive month for stocks, though Italy has had a month to forget.

  • FTSE -0.6% day -0.15% month

  • Cac -0.5% day +1.73% month

  • Dax -0.7% day +2.23 month

  • Ibex -0.9% day +0.05% month

  • FTSE Mib -1.4% day -3.06% month

European bonds

  • Italy 1.36% -1bp

  • Spain 1.48% -1bp

  • Portugal 3.07% flat

  • Germany 0.142% -2bp

  • Greece 7.29% +3bp

A reminder also that the ECB start up their corporate bond purchases from tomorrow. We may not get to see how quickly they start into them until next week's QE count but we may get some news from stock market wires. I'm not sure what, if any, affect it will have on the prices of stocks themselves but it's worth bearing in mind.
