EU proposes €750 billion pandemic stimulus fund

Including €390 billion in grants

The EU is proposing a €750 billion stimulus fund. The grants within that fund are proposed at €390 billion. This is lower than the €500 billion that Germany and France proposed, but is higher than the €350 billion billion counterproposal from the so-called frugal countries.

  • EU proposes €1.074 trillion for blocs 2021 – 2027 budget
  • 70% of the total grants to be committed and 2021 and 2022. 30% to be granted in 2023
  • grants in 2021 and 2022 to be allocated on the basis of among others, average unemployment in a country in 2015-2019
  • in 2023 unemployment criterion for grants allocation is to be replaced by GDP fall in 2020 – 2021
