EU budget commissioner Guenther Oettinger on the wires
- Says that "we in EU" cannot go too far into debt
- Have to keep trust of creditors in mid
- Says that Italy must make its payments to the EU despite high debt levels
The strain between the EU and Italy continues to grow. This isn't anything new by Oettinger or the EU as they have been warning Italy against not paying its budget contributions due to a row over migrant policy.
Earlier in the week, Oettinger threatened Italy with interest payments should they fail to pay up.
