Economic data due from Asia today

An active calendar today, the item most likely to move anything is the Australian business confidence and conditions data

2350GMT - Japan - Quarterly Business Sentiment Index (BSI) survey results for Q2.

From Japan's Ministry of Finance and the Cabinet Office

This data indicates business conditions in Japan, it surveys business assessments of and forecasts for the economy; it covers about 15,000 companies in Japan with capital stock of 10 million yen or more.

The 'headline' measures are

  • BSI Large All Industry, prior was +1.3 points q/q
  • BSI Large Manufacturing, prior was +1.1 points q/q

0130GMT - Australia -

  • National Australia Bank business confidence for May, prior was 13
  • National Australia Bank business conditions for May, prior was 14

The National Australia Bank Monthly Business Survey has been showing historically strong levels for conditions and confidence, which has seemed somewhat at odds with come other indicators. The surprise potential from the survey is if we see falls (ps. that's not a forecast for today, just a warning on what is likely the surprise side).

Also due at 0130GMT from Australia, credit card purchases and balances. But the focus will be on the NAB survey results.
