ECB's Weidmann says expectations for mid-2019 rate hike "not completely unrealistic"

ECB member/Bundesbank chief Jens Weidmann with some comments

  • Sees 2020 inflation more or less in line with ECB's goal
  • Diversity of views on governing council is a strength for the ECB
  • Says that ECB policy normalisation should start soon
  • Says that EU exemption from US tariffs not a free-trade victory
  • Current rule-based, multilateral trade framework must also be maintained

No surprises on his stance, Weidmann has been reiterating the same message for months now. He also says that the end of QE is the beginning of policy normalisation that "will take several years".
