Details of the December 2016 Eurozone PPI data report 02 February 2017

  • 1.6% vs 1.3% exp y/y. Prior 0.1%

  • EU28 states 0.9% vs 0.2% prior m/m

  • 2.4% vs 0.7% prior y/y

No real surprises here. Last month I mentioned that this data lags and that we should expect the jump in inflation to show up via these numbers this month. It's not even a surprise that we're way above expectations. This will already have been baked into the euro.

As we can see from the table, the whole EU is seeing a huge jump in costs, which are mainly energy driven.
