Hilary Clinton has secured enough delegates to become the Democratic nominee 8 June 2016
Clinton has enjoyed a comfortable lead over rival Bernie Sanders for a while but now, after securing the 9th largest delegate primary in New Jersey, the nomination is certain.
She has won about 13 million votes so far in the primaries and caucuses compared with Mr Sanders' 10 million. According to the Associated Press, she now has the support of 1,812 pledged delegates and 571 super-delegates, adding up to the 2,383 needed to become the presumptive nominee.
An historic day as Clinton becomes the first woman ever in US presidential history to secure a major party's nomination.
