Another twist in the trade story here as Australia and China relations sour even further. China says that it is capping 2019 overall coal imports at 12M tonnes. And the AUD tumbles from 0.7160 to touch 0.7100 before recovering to 0.7115 now.
The ban is said to be indefinite and only applies to Australia. Coal imports from Russia and Indonesia are believed to be unaffected by the decision here.
