China targets 7.5% growth

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is delivering the opening remarks at the annual 10-day National People’s Congress.

  • China will boost rewards for following family planning rules
  • Will strengthen phonological and environmental protection

Parts of the speech were leaked earlier in the day and, Wen said China will target 7.5% growth in 2012, which is substantially slower than 8.9-9.2% in 2011 and 10.4% in 2010. Economists are expecting growth of 8.0-8.5%.

The target for inflation is 4%, same a 2011. Actual inflation last year was 5.4%.
