This seems to be always the case when US and Chinese officials meet up for trade talks. One side will talk things up in an upbeat manner. The other will be playing down expectations and hoping for a fair-minded discussion.
And after every talk, there is an upbeat mood that something surely will get done. But then, we're back to tariffs, bickering, and retaliation. It's been nearly eight months now. I'll be really surprised if this weekend's talks will be any different from the storyline.
