Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with discussions
The report says that China plans to buy as much as 300,000 tons of pork from the US this year as part of its commitment to bolster purchases of American agriculture products amid ongoing trade negotiations between the two countries.
For some context, China only bought 85,650 tons of US pork in 2018 which was almost almost half of the 166,000 tons purchased in 2017.
While the headline here sounds good on paper, China certainly doesn't have an issue in increasing purchases of US goods. The real impediment for them is structural issues like IP protection and the exchange rate. As long as trade talks steer clear of that, anything else is no problem for China at this point.
