Data is here from earlier:

Via Bloomberg:

  • "It's always very hard at the beginning of the year to make sense of how things are moving, so I wouldn't read too much into a seemingly weak number," Louis Kuijs, chief Asia economist at Oxford Economics, said Wednesday in a Bloomberg Television interview from Hong Kong. "We also had quite weak credit data in January and I think together this is indicating that we're not seeing an acceleration, we're seeing a softening of growth."

Via Reuters :

  • Growth in China's manufacturing sector ... weakest in over 1-1/2 years
  • Lunar New Year holidays disrupted business activity
  • tougher pollution rules curtailed factory output
  • remained just above the 50-point mark that separates growth from contraction on a monthly basis. That would mark the 20th straight month of expansion for China's manufacturers, but the sharper drop may raise some concerns for China's leaders as they prepare for the start of the National People's Congress (NPC) next week where Beijing will unveil its economic targets for this year.
