Forex futures market speculator positions from the CFTC commitment of traders report as of the close on February 23, 2016
- EUR short 47K vs. 48K short prior week.
- GBP short 33K vs. 36K short prior week.
- JPY long 53K vs. 48K long prior week.
- CAD short 37K vs. 45K short prior week
- CHF short 2K vs. 4K short prior week
- AUD long 10K vs. 3K Long prior week
- NZD short 7K vs. 8K short prior week
The biggest change of position was an 8K trimming of the short position in the CAD. The AUD longs increased by 7K. The JPY longs were increased by 5K.
For the EUR, the shorts were trimmed by only 1K after some steady declines since the Dec 1 short of 183K.

The JPY position is interesting in that it is the largest long going back to early 2012. This week, the USDJPY has seen a move higher after bottoming on Wednesday. Will there be more of a squeeze of the speculative longs in the JPY? I imagine that the move higher since Wednesday, might have been helped by some selling of long positions. The chart below shows the history of the speculative position going back to 2008.
