CANADA DATA: Jan building permits -12.3%, reverses the 10.5% gain
in Dec. Residential and non-residential sectors plunge 6.6% and 23.1%
respectively. Lower construction intentions for multi-family dwellings
in Ontario led the decrease in the residential sector. The bulk of the
decrease for the non-residential sector stemmed from lower construction
intentions in six provinces, led by Alberta. Municipalities across
Canada authorized construction of 17,961 new dwellings in Jan, -6.0% mm.
