Prime Minister Theresa May met European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday
- May says there are still issues open
- An EU spokesman said "very good progress" made but work is continuing
- May will be returning on Saturday for further meetings ahead of the summit planned for Sunday with EU leaders, the goal here is to sign the Brexit agreement
German Chancellor Merkel is reported as saying she will not attend Sunday unless there is a text of the agreement ready to sign, i.e. she is not going for further negotiations
- Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez says he will not sign if there is not assurances on Gibraltar
- May and Sanchez spoke Wednesday by phone, a statement from the UK said discussions were good but further negotiations needed (no further details ….)
UK Chancellor Hammond said an agreed deal exit from the EU is worth tens of billions of pounds to the UK. Hammond is looking for the UK parliament to approve the deal.
The Northern Ireland party, DUP, continues to oppose May's draft plan but has not yet withdrawn support from her government
