Not wanting to be a party pooper but the EU has made themselves clear plenty of times already that they are not going to give legally binding assurances on the backstop. The collective negativity from all the recent headlines is putting a bit of a drag in the pound now.
Cable is down to a low of 1.3136 on the day, with the pound being the worst performing major currency ahead of US trading. EUR/GBP sits higher at 0.8610 currently as well.
