Brexit minister Davis says UK will not let EU use time pressure to force Britain's hand in talks

UK Brexit minister Davis out with comments earlier 3 Sept

  • EU Commission has made itself look silly by criticising Brexit negotiations
  • thinks UK will be making some payments into EU budget post-Brexit but in medium to long term will not be making "great big payments"

Oh what a circus, oh what a show, to quote Tim Rice from Evita.

Perhaps they all think the end of the world in nigh anyhow so why bother rushing?!

Meanwhile UK PM May has appealed for unity from pro-EU Conservative MPs as the UK's Lower House awaits to debate the government's Brexit repeal bill this Thursday.

The bill transfers EU law into UK legislation and May has said there will be proper scrutiny, but some MPs fear it will give ministers sweeping new powers. Brexit Minister Davis said this was "nonsense" and all Tories should back it as it ensured "continuity".

The opposition Labour party has said that while it backs the principle of the bill, it will not give the government a "blank cheque to pass powers into the hands of ministers".
