Comments by EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier
Barnier is trying to work out some form of compromise with DUP leader Arlene Foster but so far there hasn't been much progress on that front. Foster has come out today to reiterate that they won't budge from their stance and she vows to continue to act in national interest.
The lack of common ground here makes it tough to see any near-term solution to the Irish backstop/proposal.
