There have been moves to defuse tensions from China and the US over the past 24 hours.
From the US side, White House advisor Peter Navarro will not be attending the Trump- Xi reports the South China Morning Post.
- Navarro is a stern China hawk (he has written a book titled 'Death by China'!)
From the Chinese side, they've allowed US navy ships to visit Hong Kong
- In September China denied permission for a US warship to visit HK
I don't want to overplay these, yesterday we got a confronting report from the USTR on China:
Tensions are not yet ended, but it looks like a hiatus ahead of the Nov 30 - Dec 1 G20 summit where Xi and Trump will meet. This will improve the 'risk' atmosphere and is a positive input for AUD and equities, for example. For a week at least.
