BOE/TNS May inflation expectations 2.9% vs 2.9% prior

Latest consumer inflation expectations released by the BOE

The headline measures inflation expectations over the next 12 months.

It's a similar reading to the one measured in February - 2.9%. Details:

  • 25% of UK public have no idea how interest rates will change over next 12 months
  • 51% of public expects UK interest rates to rise over next 12 months
  • Inflation two-years ahead seen at 2.9% (unchanged)
  • Inflation five-years ahead seen at 3.6% (3.4% prior)

The proportion of respondents who said they have no idea how interest rates will change over the next year is the highest ever recorded during the history of the survey. At least there is something interesting of note. The release here isn't all too concerning given the market focus now being on the risk-off tone with sterling itself also having Brexit woes to worry about in the coming days/weeks.
