A step forward for Congressional cooperation

The Senate struck a deal to avoid a filibuster of Richard Cordray’s nomination to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has been in limbo since 2011.

Democratic leader Harry Reid said it was “a new start” for the Senatte and added “I don’t know how I could be happier.” If an agreement hadn’t been reached Democrats threatened to invoke a rule that prevents Republicans from blocking executive appointments. “I think that crisis has been averted” Republican leader Mitch McConnell said.

Does it mean there is a shred of a chance of compromise on larger issues like the debt ceiling? Not a chance.
