A long march for very good causes

Your writer is about to undertake a bit of a challenge for charity 7 April

Dear readers,

It's not often I go begging but I'd love your support for a 36 mile (58km) charity walk that I'm undertaking tonight/tomorrow with 11 others including my son Jack

We will be walking the 35.7 miles (58km) from Southend United's Roots Hall Stadium at 22.00 GMT to our away game with Charlton Athletic at The Valley, in South London which kicks-off tomorrow at 14.00 GMT.

Regular readers will know my passion for my hometown club Southend being born and bred down the road 59 years ago. I am currently also a club sponsor through my MSPFX physical fx company.

I was approached to be lead sponsor for this project and I was only too willing to accept. I just made one big mistake- I stupidly said a month ago that I would join them. Dohhhhh!

I've put in a few hard yards of walking since and my resolve is sound, with an ascent of Mont Blanc 20 years ago to fall back on. Whether my ageing legs and feet can stand the pace nowadays though is my one great unknown but I'll be getting there by hook or crook even if I miss the game!

The two very good causes are the Club's Shrimpers Trust who do great work in the community helping all age-groups and Essex based Little Havens Hospice, providing such valuable care to children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old who have life limiting or life threatening conditions. Through its support groups it also provides essential services to parents and siblings to help them through such difficult times. Residential and community services extend across the county of Essex, including respite and end-of-life care.

I don't normally like to ask favours but if I've helped you make a few pips I'd love you to show how much you appreciate it by donating whatever you can to support this event and the great work done by the chosen charities.

You can donate here and please mention FXL or me/Jack so we can identify and add to our own personal totals. Targets are there to be broken so let's really smash it!

Hopefully I'll be back in time to post on Monday! Follow me on twitter @mspfx for a few updates along the way and hopefully some celebratory pics upon arrival.

Thank-you.
