A 6.1 magnitude earthquake strikes off Taiwan. No damage reported

Earthquake off Taiwan's east coast.

The USGS is reporting a 6.1 magnitude earthquake on Taiwan's east coast about 17 km (10 miles) north-northeast of Hua-lien.

The quake hit at a depth of 7.8 km, it said.

There were no immediate reports of damage. Taiwan's high-speed rail system and local railways were also unaffected

The USGS later reported another quake in the same area, measuring 5.3.
