9/11/01: Where were you?

I was working for Thomson Financial in Boston when the phone lit up with market contacts telling me a plane had hit the World Trade Center. CNBC had a camera across the river in Jersey City trained on the Wall St. skyline and immediately went to that shot.

When the second plane hit, I was on the phone with the Thomson office in New York, one block from what is now “Ground Zero”. They were letting us know they were being evacuated. Before the phone called ended, I heard the screaming engines of the second plane slamming into the Two World Trade Center.

A short while later, the towers in which I had begun my career and the transit center through which I commuted for several years were a smoldering pile of rubble.

Everything changed that day. It will never, ever be the same.
