PBOC calls on lenders to extend more credit to companies, households

  • This comes as bank lending in the first two weeks of 2022 was lower than in the same period of 2021

The PBOC is reported to have given a window guidance to large state-owned lenders and regional banks during the middle of the month, in order to encourage them to extend more credit to companies and households.

This is yet another signal that Beijing is taking economic considerations rather seriously to start the year, after having seen the central bank cut rates this week in order to try and ensure smoother activity amid omicron risks.
