Economic calendar in Asia Friday, July 18, 2025 - Fed speaker and Japanese inflation data

Federal Reserve Board Governor Christopher Waller speaks on the economic outlook before the Money Marketeers of New York University.

• Due at 2230 GMT/1830 US Eastern time.
• Waller is a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) voter, all Board Governors have a permanent vote on the committee
• Waller has said before he favours a July rate cut. The Committee meets on July 29-30.

Also on the agenda is Japanese CPI data for June. The inflation data from Tokyo for the month moderated a little:

• Tokyo June 2025 headline CPI +3.1% y/y (3.3% expected)

The expectations I have seen are expecting a moderation for the national numbers also. Despite this:

• Bank of Japan reported likely to consider increasing its inflation forecast

Revised forecasts, if indeed they do get revised, will come at the next BoJ meeting, scheduled for July 30 and 31.
