ECB's Lagarde: Markets shouldn't translate words into any percentage point moves

  • Lagarde responds when asked about a 50 bps rate hike in July

When asked about the markets interpreting the ECB's supposed "gradual" approach as a 50 bps rate move, Lagarde says that markets should not translate any words by the central bank as being any percentage point move.

In short, she's just trying to offer up some flexibility but for the time being I would expect a 25 bps rate hike in July to still be the base case.
