Governor Zhou Xiaochuan could soon retire
There is no formal timeline to sort out who will run the PBOC in the years ahead but today might be the day.
The top 400 officials in the Communist party are meeting in Beijing this week to decide key positions and the meeting ends Wednesday.
Even if the decisions are made today, they might not be announced right away but leaks are possible.
Bloomberg says three names are often cited:
- Bank regulatory chief Guo Shuqing
- Hubei province party leader Jiang Chaoliant
- Xi advisor Liu He
In any case, look for a communique today about what was agreed at the meeting. Even if nothing on the leadership is released, broader economic policies and strokes could be released and that would move markets.
