Poloz Q&A: Canada always has its head in the oven and it's feet in the freezer

Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz

  • Monetary policy is set for the average and it's never quite right for everyone

  • Cyber risks keep me awake at night

  • Investment is one of the key issues we face

  • Inflation is on target and economy is operating roughly very close to its potential, usually those are the only checkmarks you need, however companies aren't investing at the rate we would normally expect to see

  • Hints BOC survey says companies are reluctant to invest (it's due later this week)

  • Investment is happening, it's just not as lively as we'd expect

  • Oil went up a fair bit in the past few weeks but the Canadian dollar has stayed at about the same levels

  • We hope the uncertainty gets cleared up and we can get on with business

  • We don't regulate crypto currencies and we will advise
