He notes that monetary conditions in the UK are still very competitive
- 'If you believe markets we'll be a long time getting back to even 2 per cent. If the economy continues to tick along, as we expect, then we might expect some further limited and gradual rises,'
- 'If the economy begins to change direction we will be flexible in the face of that.'
