ECB's Weidmann: Normalisation process should not be unnecessarily long

ECB member and Bundesbank chief Jens Weidmann on the wires

  • ECB should not take lightly side effects of ultra loose policy
  • Inflation in Eurozone now broadly in line with price stability
  • Monetary policy room to maneuver likely to be limited in a future downturn
  • German economic growth is still intact despite Q3 GDP drop
  • Italy should not abandon debt reduction effort
  • Says that now is not the time to ease fiscal restraint

Weidmann starting up with the hawkish comments again but nothing that is stretching the boundaries of what we have come to expect from the ECB. He also brushes off the weak German GDP figures earlier, as expected.
