Comments by ECB governing council member, Francois Villeroy de Galhau
- This is in light of the current economic situation
- ECB needs time to assess impact of negative rates
- Says that monetary policy also have favourable effects for banks
- Says impact of low interest rates on banks should neither be ignored nor blow out of proportion
With the ECB meeting next week, Villeroy isn't giving too much away just yet with his remarks here. But if anything else, it suggests that rate tiering remains an idea that the central bank will not rush to consider or implement for the time being.
