ECB's Hansson says he hasn't remotely thought about succeeding Draghi

Comments by ECB council member Ardo Hansson

  • Latest developments on asset purchase programme are encouraging

We may still be a year away before it happens but the race to succeed Draghi is already heating up. Weidmann was the runaway favourite at the start of the year but his odds have since leveled off after Merkel appears to be pushing more for a German to be seated at the top of the European Commission instead.

Right now, ex-Finland central bank governor Erkki Liikanen appears to be favourite alongside Bank of France's Villeroy. Both are very much Dragh-esque in their approach though if Germany can't get their way with the European Commission presidency post, then Weidmann will be right back in the running.
