Further comments by ECB vice president, Luis de Guindos
- Says that the lesson is evident, it is important to respect fiscal rules
- Says any controversy between Italian government and European Commission on fiscal rules is reflected in yields spreads
Kind of stating the obvious but it's not really common to see the ECB meddle into affairs between individual countries and the European Commission. The remark "it is important to respect fiscal rules" may rub Italian lawmakers the wrong way but it's not to say that the ECB has a very good rapport with the incumbent government I guess.
