BOE governor Mark Carney speaks in Davos
- Says that BOE has been preparing for Brexit since 2016
- Says that BOE is prepared for whatever form Brexit takes
- It's not automatic which way policy would go in the event of a hard Brexit
- Says that the central bank has policy room
As it stands, the central bank is still of the view that they will move with gradual rate hikes should the Brexit procedure not be prolonged and end amicably. That said, any talks of monetary policy setting by the BOE now is very much conjecture until there is more Brexit clarity down the road.
