The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's annual economic symposium begins 24 August 2018
The main event is Federal Reserve Chair Powell speaking, I popped up a few what to expect posts earlier:
- TD preview what to expect from Fed Chair Powell at Jackson Hole
- Barclays on what they are looking for
- And via HSBC here
On Saturday (August 25) Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz is speaking as part of a panel at the symposium. The Bank meet September 5. so keep your ears open from any hints from Poloz. Ahead of the Sep. meeting officials at the Bank enter the 'blackout' period next week, so Saturday's comments might be Poloz' last chance to drop a hint.
Preview from TD (via Bloomberg):
- TD warn the BoC Gov may drop a hint of higher rates to come
- "Risk/reward supports positioning for higher rates in the very short-end of the curve heading into the weekend"
- TD believes it makes "more sense" for the central bank to hold rates until the October meeting given Canada's economic backdrop
Full agenda of the meeting will be out soon:
This time of year they are playing frisbee in Jackson Hole, but this is Poloz doing the other (season to come) main attraction.
