Gold is trading at the highest since November 20, up $18 to $1258 after touching as high as $1264.
The gains came very quickly, as prices shot higher by $10 in seconds shortly after 8 am ET (1300 GMT). The near-instant jump tripped circuit breakers and gold has struggled to stay above the key $1258-60 level since.
