Syria is one of only seven countries not to have joined the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, which commits members to completely destroying their stockpiles.
The US has already responded, saying the US won’t allow the treaty to be used as a stalling tactic. They add that the document is ‘not a substitute’ for actions to destroy the chemical arsenal.
