One bit of news from China earlier that’s getting some attention is electricity usage. It’s a statistic that’s difficult to manipulate.
Power-generation volumes have risen each month since April, the National Bureau of Statistics said. The year-on-year rate of growth has accelerated every month since May, and the August measurement is the fastest so far this year.
There is a caveat, however, because electrical grid activity depends on weather and preliminary Sept data shows consumption is back to May levels.
Chinese officials were also speaking earlier today and saying they strongly believe growth targets will be reached this year.
