The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) says Air New Zealand has told staff it intends to close its wide body aircraft heavy maintenance facility in Auckland by July 2014
- Loss of 180 aircraft engineering jobs
The closure is said to being attributed to:
- Loss of third party engineering work
- The retirement of Air New Zealand’s own 767 fleet
- The airline’s inability to attract replacement work due to the high New Zealand dollar
Air New Zealand shares are down 3.1% in early trade, the NZD is stable around 0.7831/36
