South Korea's NIS says North Korea has been trying to steal cryptocurrencies - Yonhap

South Korea's National Intelligence Service briefed lawmakers earlier today

The report by Yonhap News is saying that North Korea has already stolen tens of billions of won worth of cryptocurrencies, citing ruling party lawmaker Kim Byung Kee.

It goes on to say that North Korea has in the last year sent hacking emails to South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges and investors in order to steal their passwords.

This isn't really something new as North Korea has all the while been suspected as the masterminds behind recent hacking of South Korean exchanges, but these are official words from South Korean authorities confirming it.

This could be one of the few setbacks on recent ties between the two countries, which took a step forward in the Winter Olympics - fielding a joint team consisting of players from both North and South Korea in the women's ice hockey competition.
