Canadian regulator pushes for cryptocurrency advertising ban
Last week, Facebook announced it would no longer accept advertisements for companies in the cryptocurrency space. They said no advertiser would be able to promote things like bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, initial coin offerings or binary options.
Later last week customers with credit card from JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup were banned from buying cryptocurrencies. A report today says worries about theft and abuse of online protections were behind the move.
The advertising juggernaut Google doesn't sound like it will follow. The Times of Israel wrote today about Canadian efforts to get them to enact a similar ban to Facebook
"Asked by The Times of Israel whether it was going to enact a similar ban, Google spokeswoman Roni Levin replied by email that "we already ban and enforce against misleading ads and misrepresentation (across all categories)."
Sure Google...sure.
